The new Class 3 Eclipse marks a US milestone: the first Bosch-powered e-bike equipped with the innovative Smart System to reach speeds of 28 mph (45 km/h). Its adventurous frame blends Dutch design influences with trail-ready features, promising a union of commuting elegance and off-road capability.

Gazelle describes the Eclipse as follows: “Crafted for the intrepid cyclist with discerning tastes, the Eclipse boasts a visually striking and functional twin downtube design. This offers stability at high speeds and a relaxed riding position, while seamlessly concealing the largest battery ever integrated into a Gazelle frame. The Eclipse embodies style, power, and precision – ready to take riders on any journey.”

This bike utilizes Bosch’s enhanced Performance Line Speed Motor with Smart System, delivering a robust 85 Nm of torque for challenging climbs and rapid acceleration. Paired with Bosch’s highest capacity 750 Wh battery, extended rides are possible without range anxiety. The battery’s UL-compliance ensures an added focus on safety.

TheMotoStreet’s Take

Though I haven’t tested the Eclipse specifically, my experience with Gazelle e-bikes, including a tour of their Netherlands factory, has been highly positive. The Eclipse appears to combine familiar Gazelle quality with Bosch’s newest e-bike technology, a recipe for an outstanding ride. I look forward to potentially testing the Eclipse in the future; if it aligns with my previous Gazelle encounters, it promises to be exceptional.
